Darvina, 9 (Дарвiна, 9 in Ukrainian, Дарвина, 9 in Russian) - The House of the Architect, the former mansion of the Ryzhovs.


History

The Ryzhovs | merchants Ryzhovs. In 1911, the son of an industrialist Pavel Pavlovich Ryzhov Peter purchased a lot on Sadovo-Kulikovskaya, which initially had No. 3, then No. 5, No. 7 and, finally, No. 9 and ordered the architect V.V. Velichko to build a mansion. It was built within one year and is one of the major successes of the architect.

After the revolution, in 1917-1918, the Kharkiv GubChK operated in this building. Later, for some time, the All-Ukrainian Society for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries worked in it. Since 1934 it has been the Architect's House.
